Blue Marine and Christie’s have partnered for a charitable initiative offering works from 35 world leading artists to benefit the future of the ocean. Coinciding with Frieze London, the artist-donated works will be offered during Christie’s 20th and 21st Century art sales with proceeds benefitting Blue Marine’s projects that protect our ocean.

The crisis facing our oceans

Around the world, our oceans are in danger like never before. A triple threat of biodiversity loss, habitat destruction and climate change challenge the health of the ocean – on which all life on earth depends.

Blue: Art for the Ocean

Every lot sold will go towards a Blue Marine project, supporting the progress of the UN’s Global Framework goal of “30×30” – protecting 30 per cent of the ocean by 2030.

One of the highlights of Blue: Art for the Ocean is a photograph captured during a unique performance by Marina Abramović in May 2024. Filmed on Fire Island in New York, Performance for the Oceans (2024) depicts the Serbian conceptual and performance artist giving her unconditional love and energy to our ocean, stressing the urgent need for their preservation.

Other internationally renowned artists involved in this initiative include Peter Doig, Hurvin Anderson, Ai Weiwei, Viviane Sassen, Shirin Neshat, Kenny Scharf and Edmund de Waal.

Donated works go on sale during Christie’s Post-War and Contemporary Art Day sale on October 10th and the Post-War and Contemporary Art Online Sale between October 1st – 15th.

Join us in supporting this important cause. Together, we can make a lasting impact and difference in ensuring the health of our oceans for future generations.
